What to Expect
One-on-one therapy with me usually begins with a brief phone call or email exchange to set up a time to meet and get any questions you may have upfront answered. I’ll then send you a link to a client portal where the intake forms and consents can be completed before we meet. Your source of payment to keep on file is also entered at this time. It helps to have all intake forms completed a few hours before our first meeting.
Our first session is a chance to get to know each other and determine if we are a good fit. We will talk, I will ask questions and offer direction, and if you wish, you may bring a list or notes regarding things you would like to address. You may interrupt me anytime to speak up for yourself, ask a question, let me know I’m barking up the wrong tree, or if you are feeling uncomfortable.
My approach respects the mind/body connection, so there are times in session when I may direct you to “check-in” with your system in ways that will help inform our work. This may involve focusing on the breath, thoughts, images, or noticing what’s happening with your body. By the end of the first session, we can usually determine the pace of therapy moving forward. Scheduling of the next session is done at this time. If either of us determines that a better fit would be beneficial, I will offer you referrals if you would like.
